It’s Election Season…
This election season, there has been a lot of talk in Florida about how seniors are once again being overlooked by candidates. The majority of time and energy is spent trying to capture the youth vote, even though seniors vote in much, much higher numbers. This is what prompted the leader of a senior television network to bring the entire issue to the forefront.
But seniors will vote regardless of which candidates pay attention and which one ignore them. And one thing we must be serious about is making sure seniors are prepared to vote for the candidates they are intending to vote for. The infamous Hanging Chads of Miami Dade are gone, but there will always be confusion come election time. The least we can do is try to minimize that confusion.
Helping Florida Seniors get Ready to Vote
So, what can a senior do? There is one method that is almost fool proof, and it is this: if you are unsure of yourself (that is, if you are unsure that you are following the voting instructions properly), ask someone for help. If it is a mail in ballot, ask somebody you trust. A friend or a family member. There is nothing against the law there. This is especially pertinent for those who have difficulty seeing.
If you live in a FL Assisted Living center, be sure that you are ready to use whatever public transportation is being used to go to the ballot box. Generally, voter transportation is one of the most common elder care services, and the easiest to access.
